Every year for four years now a street is blocked off near my house for the neighbors to get together and eat dessert, dance in the street while a band plays, moms and dads converse with one another with the latest gossip while kids run and scream with glowsticks. Teenage boys divide off while the teenage girls strut around like they own the street.

I, of course, have no friends in my neighborhood except for a four year old, but she was busy with other kids her age. I really don't like the teenage girls in the neighborhood, and basically, those my age are so few or are away. So, bored as I was, I found chalk and walked off to a driveway to color.

Actually, it was my sister who inspired me to blend using my hands. I hated being so limited on chalk colors. But blend I did, and I spent a good hour and fifteen minutes at least, ignoring kids who just stepped on it while working on the picture, or shrugged off the fact kids came over to color on my picture, and encouraged them to draw in their own space. I had hoped people would leave me alone so I could just think and color, but so many kids came to watch me. One even tried copying me and almost started crying because his wasn't like mine, so I showed him how to blend with two fingers, and I helped him. He soon left, replaced by a cute girl who added the stars to. I don't know how many kids came over to watch me color, but soon, I was so happy to be showing kids how to blend with chalk. So next to mine was a picture somewhat like mine done by two kids. I had a lot of fun with this though. I wish I had started the picture sooner. It got dark in just an hour, and I even had to call my brother to bring the camera over so I could take a picture.

BTW, I've never done chalk art before, except in junior high, but I had no art skills whatsoever. This is the best chalk art I've ever done.

Of course, it's so much better in real life. I had to tinker in Photoshop a bit to get the little details in.
